A 46-year-old man was arrested after a Garda sergeant and three nightclub bouncers were stabbed outside a nightclub in Co Donegal.

The incident took place in the early hours of yesterday outside the Voodoo Nightclub in Letterkenny.

It is believed a man was refused entry to the nightclub and began to cause a disturbance. Gardaí were called and the man then produced a knife.

The sergeant was stabbed in the hand. It is not believed injuries to the four stabbed are life threatening.

A Garda spokesman confirmed four people including the sergeant had been stabbed. The incident took place as hundreds of people socialised in the town during the Letterkenny Live Festival. The night had up to then passed without any major incidents.

The man was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and was being questioned at Letterkenny Garda station.
