A large quantity of drugs was taken from a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Co Wicklow early this morning.
Gardaí believe a gang used several vans or trucks to take the drugs from the Servier (Ireland) Industries Limited facility on Gorey Road, Arklow.
A security guard was overpowered and had a hood placed on his head during the raid, which took place between 3.30 and 4 a.m. The man was shaken but otherwise unhurt.
A Garda spokesman told ireland.comthe raid was "very well organised" but that it was "early days" in the investigation. He said "a substantial amount of drugs" was taken.
Servier makes four products, three for the treatment of hypertension and the drug Diamicron, for the treatment of non-insulin dependant diabetes.
The firm is a subsidiary of the 14th-largest pharmaceutical company in Europe - Groupe de Recherche Servier.
