A threat of legal action against the operators of a deflector system has resulted in the loss of multi channel television for 5,000 families in Co Galway. Families in east and south Galway lost their BBC, UTV and Channel 4 television pictures this week after the operators were compelled to turn off the system following the threat of High Court action.

Cablelink, which says it is licensed by the Government, it had to protect a £2.5 million investment to provide a microwave system to the county. However, Loughrea's Cllr Michael Regan said the of the Cablelink service was prohibitive it costs about £200 per household per year - compared to the £20 per annum which the deflector operators were charging.
