About 1,800 homes were without power last night as gale-force winds swept the North. Northern Ireland Electricity said that large areas of Antrim, Down, Armagh, Tyrone and Derry were affected by power cuts, with rural areas around Ballyclare, Maghera, Ballinahinch and Kilkeel worst hit. NIE engineers were working throughout the night to restore supplies.
