A Dublin man who beat an insurance collector and robbed his bucket of money has been jailed for four years by Judge Kevin Haugh at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Jason O'Keeffe (30), unemployed, Mount Olive Road, Kilbarrack, pleaded guilty to the robbery and assault of Mr Joseph Wilde on March 12th, 1992. He also pleaded guilty to handling stolen property.

Sgt Denis Palmer told Ms Melanie Greally, prosecuting, that O'Keeffe and two other masked youths, armed with iron bars, waited for Mr Wilde to finish his last collection and attacked him. They struck him around his back and shoulders and escaped with his bucket of money filled with £695 cash.

Judge Haugh suspended the final year of the sentence.
