A US military helicopter crashed and burst into flames today on the Mediterranean island of Sicily, killing all four crew, an Italian police spokesman said.
The helicopter took off from the US Sigonella militarybase near the city of Catania on Wednesday afternoon, butshortly afterwards it crashed by a roadside and caught fire.
No one on the ground was hurt in the crash, the spokesmansaid.
US military authorities were not available for comment andreasons for the crash were not immediately clear.
Police could not confirm whether the four killed were USservicemen.
