London - Four men were jailed in Middlesex yesterday over a multi-million pound illegal betting plot to black out a Premiership football game. The floodlight-tampering scam was carried out on behalf of a Far Eastern betting syndicate in a failed attempt to get a game between Charlton Athletic and Liverpool abandoned mid-game in February.

Chee Kew Ong (49) was jailed for four years, and electrical expert Eng Hwa Lim (35), another Malaysian, for four years, at Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court.

Roger Firth (49) a security guard at Charlton's ground in south-east London, received 18 months, and Wai Yuen Liu (38) received 30 months.
