Four held after attempted robbery in Dublin

Four men are being held after an attempted robbery on a credit union in Dublin this afternoon.

Four men are being held after an attempted robbery on a credit union in Dublin this afternoon.

The incident occured on the Main Street in Rathfarnham just after 5pm when a group of raiders in a 4x4 vehicle rammed the entrance of the credit union twice. The premises was closed for business at the time.

No money was taken and there were no reported injuries. The raiders sped off in the vehicle, and split up into the 4x4 and a car.

Officers from the Organised Crime Unit fired a number of warning shots.

Four of the men were later arrested, two in Churchtown and two on the Dodder Road. The car and the 4x4 were seized and are being technically examined.

Gardaí are holding the suspects at Terenure, Tallaght and Dundrum Garda Stations under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

It is understood that the four people being held are members of a crime gang based in Rathfarnham and Tallaght.
