Four men have been charged this morning following disturbances in Banbridge, Co Down, last night.

They face a series of charges including assault on police, unlawful assembly and riotous behaviour.

The four, aged 18, 22, 27 and 29, are due to appear in court in Newry on September 3rd.

The charges follow what is thought to have been a dispute about flags. Loyalists are understood to have been intent on removing tricolours in the Peggy's Loaning area.

A crowd of up to 100 gathered and protested outside the local police station before dispersing at around midnight.
