A FORMER prostitute has told a jury that a Kildare man raped, buggered and falsely imprisoned her during a two-hour ordeal on a Wicklow mountain road in 1994.
The woman claimed the defendant and a companion, who drove the car, "swapped her around", each taking turns in forcing her into sexual activity while shouting threats at her. "It went on for some hours but it seemed like forever. I though they were going to kill me," she said.
The woman also said the men offered her cannabis while they raped her but she refused because she was a heroin addict at the time and it would have made her sick. The 27-year-old defendant has pleaded not guilty to four charges that he raped the woman, buggered her, forced oral sex on her and falsely imprisoned her at Powerscourt mountain, Ennis kerry, Co Wicklow, between 10 p.m. on December 29th and 2 a.m. on December 30th, 1994.
Ms Maureen Clark SC, prosecuting, told the jury the woman took to prostitution to feed her £200-a-day heroin habit. Ms Clark said the prosecution and defence agreed on many aspects, including the fact that semen found on the woman's blouse was the defendant's, that he was in the car, that he went to the mountain spot with the other man, and that his arrest, detention and interrogation by the gardai were lawful.
The jury would be faced only with the question of consent.
She said the defendant was arrested two years after the incident and claimed the alleged victim had agreed to provide sex for both men for £100. The woman told Ms Clark she had agreed a fee of £30 with the driver for oral sex.
She "knew within two minutes" of getting into the car she was in trouble. The men argued because the accused man wanted to get hash. The driver stopped the car at a caravan to get the cannabis and she talked to the other man. They then drove on to a mountain bog road and she was subjected to two hours of rape, buggery and anal sex with both men taking turns at her. Afterwards she was driven back to the city. She said the driver dragged her out of the vehicle and told her not to look at the registration. A couple stopped and brought her to Rathfarnham Garda station.
Cross-examined by Mr Paul McDermott SC, she denied she agreed to have sex with both men for £100. She could have told gardai she was left alone in the car while they bought cannabis at the caravan but could not remember all the details now, four years later.
The hearing before Mr Justice Smith continues.
