Wiesbaden - Mr Manfred Kanther, once former chancellor Helmut Kohl's interior minister, was charged yesterday with embezzlement as part of the slush fund scandal in Mr Kohl's German conservative party, the Christian Democrats.
Mr Kanther and two others are accused of illegally spiriting nearly $10 million belonging to the regional branch of the CDU in the central state of Hesse into secret Swiss bank accounts.
