Ireland's EU Commissioner, Mr Padraig Flynn, last night said he had never accepted money from anyone "to do a political favour in so far as planning is concerned".

Speaking on RTE's The Late Late Show, Mr Flynn said he did not wish to comment on the Flood tribunal other than saying: "I never asked or took money from anybody to do favours for anybody in my life".

The EU Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs also said he was still upset about allegations made against his daughter, Mayo TD Ms Beverly CooperFlynn, in relation to irregular practices at National Irish Bank, where she used to work.

"I was very upset and I think I was angry because I felt here was a young backbencher in my political party who was being attacked pretty unfairly from my point of view and some of it was because she was Padraig Flynn's daughter. I hated that."
