Gardaí in Co Louth are investigating an aggravated burglary in which five masked men broke into a house in Dundalk early yesterday morning.

A couple in their 30s, along with their three children - who are all aged under four - a woman in her 40s and two teenagers were in the house at Ath Leathan, Racecourse Road, when the men entered broke in.

An amount of cash was taken and the men - two of whom were armed with handguns- made their escape on foot.

The male occupant of the house was injured received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Drogheda for treatment.
