Five people were taken to hospital today after their hotel lift crashed a number of floors to the car park basement of a luxury hotel in Killarney town centre.
The five people, believed to be from Meath and Dublin and members of a wedding party, were in the lift in the Plaza hotel in Killarney town centre when it crashed to the ground. It is believed the lift fell from the second floor down to the car park basement.
Five ambulances, the fire service and a number of garda vehicles attended the scene.
The injured, none of them believed to be serious, were transferred to the accident and emergency unit of Kerry General hospital.
They were freed after the fire service in Killarney managed to prize the lift open.
A number are suspected to be suffering broken bones, according to services at the scene.
