Gardaí investigating dissident republican activity and organised crime arrested five people in Cork today.

Gardaí investigating dissident republican activity and organised crime arrested five people in Cork today.

Five men - three aged in their 40s, one in his 20s and one in his 50s - were taken into custody following a series of searches at several properties in Cork city.

The searches were carried out from 7am by members of the special detective unit assisted by the regional support unit, a Garda statement said.

The men are being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, at Mayfield, Gurrannabraher and Togher Garda stations.
