Five from Cork remanded after pleading guilty in firearms case

Four Co Cork people pleaded guilty to firearms and ammunition offences and a fifth admitted withholding information from gardaí at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday.

The five, four men and a woman, were remanded for sentencing until July 13th next after admitting a series of charges, including possession of an AK47 assault rifle, a shotgun and pistol and ammunition in 2002.

Before the court were Anthony Crowley (21), Stoneview, Blarney; Alan Hickey (19), Ballygibbon; Jonathan O'Rourke (24), Willison Park, Blarney; Brian McSweeney (22), Coolowen, Blarney; and Michelle O'Rourke (22), Rockview Terrace, Doneraile.

Crowley pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of an AK47 assault rifle, a pistol, a sawn-off shotgun, 119 shotgun cartridges and 126 rounds of ammunition at Stoneview, Blarney, on October 3rd, 2002.

Hickey pleaded guilty to withholding information from the gardaí between October 2nd and 4th, 2002, under Section 9 of the 1998 Offences Against the State Act.

Jonathan O'Rourke admitted the unlawful possession of a pistol and 250 rounds of ammunition at Loughnane, Blarney, Co Cork, on October 4th, 2002.

Brian McSweeney pleaded guilty to having an AK47 assault rifle, a sawn-off shotgun, a pistol, 119 shotgun cartridges and 126 rounds of ammunition at Coolowen, Blarney, between September 28th and 29th, 2002.

Michelle O'Rourke admitted possession of an AK47 assault rifle, a shotgun, a pistol, 119 shotgun cartridges and 126 rounds of ammunition at Rockview Terrace on a date unknown between July 1st and September 29th, 2002.

Michelle O'Rourke and McSweeney were remanded on continuing bail and the other three men in custody for sentencing on July 13th next.
