GARDAI found five Derry men at an IRA training camp in Co Donegal where they recovered two assault rifles and a grenade containing Semtex, the Special Criminal Court in Dublin was told yesterday. Det Garda James Breslin said one of the men, Mr Patrick Kavanagh, told gardai, "Let us walk away from here," as he was being held at gunpoint lying on the ground. He was opposing bail for Mr Kavanagh, who was one of the five Derry city men arrested in Co Donegal last October.

They are Mr Kavanagh (33), of Chamberlain Street; Mr Hugh Wilkinson (41), of Dunmore Gardens; Mr Paul Murray (24), of College Glen; Mr Bernard O'Hagan (35), of Hatmore Park and Mr Patrick Gerard McCartney (45), of Glenowen Park.

They are all charged with possession of two AKM assault rifles with intent to endanger life at Ballygorman, Malin, Co Donegal, on October 27th last, with unlawful possession of the rifles, and unlawful possession of 100 rounds of ammunition with intent to endanger life. All five men were remanded in custody until May 28th.
