The Fianna Fail MEP for Connacht-Ulster, Mr Pat the Cope Gallagher, has called on the Minister for the Marine, Mr Barrett, to begin negotiations with the European Commission on a compensation package for fishermen. Some 6,000 fishermen and processors face severe financial difficulties due to the bad weather, the MEP said yesterday.
A delegation from Donegal met Mr Barrett yesterday to discuss readjustment of the mackerel and herring quotas.
