OVER 80 fire fighters spent, more than 18 hours yesterday battling a blaze which totally destroyed a plastics factory.

The fire at LP Plastics, just outside Mallow, Co Cork, broke out about midnight on Tuesday and was only extinguished yesterday morning.

The factory was evacuated and no one was injured in one of the biggest fires in Co Cork in recent years.

Fire fighters from Mallow, Kanturk, Millstreet, Midleton, and Carrigaline were involved in fighting the blaze. Gardai said it was too early to say what caused the fire.
