A FILE will be sent to the DPP following an incident in which a Dublin woman was hit in the chest by a crossbow bolt fired through the window of her car in Finglas, Dublin.
Three 18 year old men questioned by detectives yesterday about the incident were later released without charge.
Ms Ann Morrow (41), and her husband, Eddie (43), were driving along Hazelcroft Road at around 9.40 p.m. on Tuesday when the four inch metal headed bolt struck their Ford Escort.
It shattered the passenger window and struck Ms Morrow, the passenger, in the chest leaving a gash 1 1/2 inches wide. The bolt also hit Mr Morrow in the leg.
Ms Morrow was treated at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown for shock and minor injuries. She is currently recovering at home in Arklow Street, Dublin.
Mr Morrow said the incident was "completely pointless". "The whole side window just exploded, I thought it was a bullet. Both of us could have been killed. We could be dead now," he said.
Ms Morrow said the incident was "idiotic".
"When I thought about it later, you know, to be maybe struck in the head or maybe lose an eye and for what? It's just completely mindless, she said.
Detectives arrested an 18 year old local man yesterday at a house on Hazelcroft Road and held him under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Finglas Garda Station. A crossbow and accessories were found in the house.
As a result of a follow up search by detectives, two other 18 year olds later came forward for questioning at Finglas Garda station.
Under the 1990 Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, it is illegal to possess a crossbow without a licence.
