Russian Elena Bovina delivered the first upset of the US Open by eliminating fifth seed Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia 6-3, 6-2 today.
Bovina, who won her only WTA title earlier this year in Warsaw, will play France's Stephanie Foretzin in the third round.
Dokic made 29 unforced errors. Bovina hit four aces and 21 winners, both three better than Dokic.
