FF vows to raise State pension to €300

Fianna Fáil has pledged to raise the State pension to at least €300 per week if re-elected.

Fianna Fáil has pledged to raise the State pension to at least €300 per week if re-elected.

Minister for Social and Family Affairs Séamus Brennan said today the cost of the increase is fully provided for in the party's budget framework.

Mr Brennan said pensioners have made a huge contribution to the creation of a better Ireland.

"They kept this country going through far more difficult times and it is right that they share in the economy's prosperity. That is why we have made the €300 commitment," he said.

The Minister said his party was also committed to reducing taxes and making them fairer.

"By reforming PRSI and by indexing tax credits and bands to wages, we will make sure that the real tax burden remains low," he said.

"By cutting tax rates, we will reward work. Taken together, our proposals are better for 97 per cent of income earners, particularly those on low and middle incomes," Mr Brennan insisted.
