The Fianna Fail Justice spokesman, Mr John O'Donoghue, called for the establishment of a register of sex offenders yesterday. Many sex offenders released from prison remain "a potential danger to society and their whereabouts should be known to gardai and the Probation and Welfare Service", according to Mr O'Donoghue. Health boards, child care agencies, schools and youth clubs should be given access to such a register, which would be established by the Garda criminal records office to enable them to vet potential employees, he said.
