Wexford County and Gorey Town councillor Lorcan Allen has been given permission to turn part of his property on The Avenue, Gorey, into a pub.
The former Fianna Fáil TD's auctioneering company, Allen & Kenny, was granted permission to demolish part of the existing building and to construct a two-storey extension to the rear yard.
The use of the building will be changed from an auctioneers' office to a public house on two floors.
Wexford council also gave the go-ahead for an auctioneers' office to be built with reception, showroom and toilet, and provision was made for a car park and ancillary site services.
Cllr Allen would not comment on the planning decision when contacted.
Cllr Allen, a former junior minister with Fianna Fáil and chairman of Wexford County Council, last year took responsibility for sending up to 3,000 forged letters purporting to come from the Taoiseach to voters in North Wexford in the run up to the local election last June.
He admitted full responsibility when Fianna Fáil began an internal inquiry, and acknowledged that the use of Oireachtas envelopes to distribute the letters was wrong.
The inquiry resulted in his suspension from the party for one year, and his expulsion from the party's national executive.
