THE first female deacon to become a priest in Tuam was ordained in the Church of Ireland Cathedral in the Co Galway town yesterday. She is the Rev Nicola Harvey Neill (above) and she was ordained by her father in law, the Right Rev John Neill, Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry.

She comes from Lisburn and obtained her Bachelor of Divinity degree from Queen's University in 1991. Her husband, the Rev Stephen Neill, is curate in St Mary's Cathedral, Limerick.
