The death took place on Saturday after a long illness of the father of the Republic of Ireland football manager Steve Staunton.
Mr Tom Staunton is survived by his wife, Rosaleen, four sons and a daughter.
Football Association of Ireland president Dave Blood and chief executive John Delaney said Mr Staunton had instilled in his family a genuine love of sport and had given Steve impressive support as a manager and a player.
Today's scheduled meeting of the FAI board of management has been cancelled.
