London - Fourteen women have died of cervical cancer after being wrongly given the all-clear by smear tests, it emerged yesterday.

Another 64 may have had to undergo radical treatment instead of much smaller operations following "false negative" smears in Leicestershire, the Department of Health in Britain said.
