A farmer and publican who was in court because of a large number of animal deaths on his land is to sell his herd, Rathdrum Court heard yesterday.

Mr John Cullen, of Wicklow, had pleaded guilty to nine charges of failing to bury animals and three sample counts of cruelty to animals. At a hearing in January, the court heard that Mr Cullen was overawed by the workload after his brother Michael died.

Judge Donnachadh Ó Buachalla heard that Mr Cullen was not able to look after his cattle and was selling his entire herd. The judge adjourned the case to April 18th.
