A Co Roscommon farmer was convicted by a jury yesterday of raping a woman in 1995.

A Co Roscommon farmer was convicted by a jury yesterday of raping a woman in 1995.

During the four day trial at the Central Criminal Court, the 51 year old father of five denied charges of raping and sexually assaulting the woman, a mother of six from Co Galway, at his home on July 30th, 1995.

The jury of seven men and five women took four hours over two days to return unanimous guilty verdicts to both charges. He was remanded in custody for sentence on May 28th.
