The FAI tonight confirmed they received €100,000 payment from Drogheda United in order to secure the club's status as a member of the Eircom League.

It is believed the Co Louth club sponsor's, O2, and a Boyneside consortium came up with the required amount to save the club from going under.

An FAI spokesperson confirmed to ireland.com that 'a banker's draft along with documentation had arrived' at Merrion Square.

United's new chairman and chief executive, Joe Fahy, yesterday said there was 'absolutely no doubt' the payment would be made in time.

The FAI will discuss the matter in full tomorrow.
