A Finglas man at the centre of a failed extradition attempt by the British police last week was further remanded in custody on charges of being a member of the IRA when he appeared at Dublin District Court yesterday.

Mr Anthony Duncan (26), of Kippure Park, Finglas, Dublin, is charged with being a member of the IRA on April 12th.

In court yesterday State solicitor Mr Brendan Counihan said the DPP had directed the case against Mr Duncan should be dealt with in a higher court. He sought a remand for a book of evidence to be prepared.

Mr Counihan said he understood the defendant would not consent to a remand any longer than one week. A solicitor for Mr Duncan said this was the case.

Judge William Hamill remanded him in custody to appear again before a special sitting of Dublin District Court in the Special Criminal Court building, Green Street, on April 26th.

An attempt by British police to have him extradited there as part of an investigation into an IRA bombing campaign failed when it was ruled that documents put before the court were "fatally flawed".
