The former SDLP mayor of Derry city has been forced from his home after a series of attacks by dissident republicans.

Pat Ramsey is moving his family from their house in the Bogside following a two-and-a-half-year campaign by renegade paramilitaries.

His home has been repeatedly targeted and has been subjected to 15 petrol bomb attacks and a number of hoax alerts.

It is understood that Mr Ramsey is moving across the River Foyle to live in the predominantly Protestant Waterside district.

Mr Ramsey was unavailable for comment today, but SDLP sources confirmed the step.
