The English players' union (PFA) has called a strike for December 1st after talks with the Premier League over television revenue broke down today.
"We feel we have been left with no alternative," PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor told Sky Sports television.
The strike would be the first in the history of English football and Taylor said it would cover all professional games where television cameras were present.
The PFA is demanding five per cent of a Stg£1.65 billion television deal, amounting to around Stg£27 million a year.
