Engineer fined for speeding

A young engineer who drove at 120 m.p.h

A young engineer who drove at 120 m.p.h. and overtook a line of cars waiting to turn right was fined £1,000 and had his licence endorsed by Judge John Brophy at Dunshaughlin Court. However, the judge said he would not disqualify the man from driving as he wanted him to keep his job.

Brian Gahon (24), of Mooretown, Ratoath, Co Meath, admitted the offence, which occurred at Rathbeggan, Dunshaughlin, on September 29th.

Garda John Dwyer said he clocked Gahon driving at 120 m.p.h., 104 m.p.h. and 97 m.p.h. over a stretch of road. There were road works in progress, and Gahon overtook cars waiting to turn right. Mr John Boland said his client was an electronics engineer with Hewlett Packard and would lose his job if he lost his licence.
