Drugs were responsible for two shootings within a week at Limerick homes, gardai said yesterday.

Drugs were responsible for two shootings within a week at Limerick homes, gardai said yesterday.

In the first attack, a family was awakened by two shots fired at their house in Hartigan's Villas, Moyross, on Wednesday.

No one was injured, but three more shots were fired at the front window of a house in St Ita's Street, St Mary's Park, the following day.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that both incidents were drug-related.

No arrests were made, and gardai have appealed for witnesses to the attacks.

Gardai denied any link between the two shootings and a gun attack at a public house in Lord Edward Street on Friday.

Patrons escaped injury when a single bullet shattered a window, the spokesman said. Meanwhile, two men armed with a hammer robbed a shop of several hundred pounds in Golf Links Road, Castletroy, on Saturday afternoon.

Gardai investigating the robbery later questioned a man and woman.

They were released without charge but a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
