St Patrick's Athletic and Drogheda United will play their Eircom Premier League tonight after the potential for strike action was avoided this afternoon.

Drogheda's players planned to strike after the club sought to cut player salaries by 30 per cent last week.

However, a statement released by the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland (PFAI) said, the matter of insurance cover and the assurance that the Drogheda players will receive a full week's wages has ensured the fixture at Inchicore will go ahead.

Further talks are scheduled for next week in the hope of resolving the situation once and for all.

Elsewhere tonight, Bray take on Shelbourne and UCD host Cork while Waterford play Sligo in the First Division.
