The Garda file into the death of a 37-year-old Dublin woman killed in a hit-and-run incident at Summerhill in November 1998 remains open, Dublin City Coroner's Court was told yesterday.
Despite appeals through the newspapers and on RTE's Crimeline programme for information into the death of Mrs Joanne McDonnell, of Markievicz House, off Townsend Street, the driver of the vehicle involved has not been found, an inquest into her death by told by Insp Noel Burke, who is heading the investigation.
Mrs McDonnell, the mother of six children, was found near the junction of Summerhill and Buckingham Street shortly after 5 a.m. on November 23rd, 1998 and pronounced dead at the Mater Hospital a short time later.
The State Pathologist, Professor John Harbison, said she had suffered very severe head, face and neck injuries which would be consistent with being struck by the wing mirror or some other protrusion from a van or truck while she was standing.
