The Director of Public Prosecutions' challenge, on grounds of "`undue leniency", to a 14-year sentence imposed on two men for the manslaughter of Det Garda Jerry McCabe will be heard by the Court of Criminal Appeal in July.

Gerard Pearse McCauley (36), originally from Strabane, Co Tyrone, and Kevin Walsh (44), Lisheen, Patrickswell, Co Limerick, were each jailed for 14 years by the Special Criminal Court on February 5th, 1999, for the manslaughter of Det Garda McCabe during an abortive post office van robbery in Adare, Co Limerick, in June 1996.
