The State sail training group Coiste an Asgard has said Irish divers who retrieved artefacts from Asgard II lying in the Bay of Biscay will hand them over to it next week.

The ship’s bell, compass and steering wheel will be presented to the group by the team, led by Waterford diver Eoin McGarry, following their return to Ireland from France this weekend. The agreement was reached yesterday after several days of controversy.

It has been welcomed by both Coiste an Asgard and by the expedition’s spokesman, Capt Gerry Burns, who is a former master of Asgard II.
