The Workers' Party said yesterday it had demanded that all US security personnel be disarmed for the duration of President Clinton's visit and that the gardai and Army Rangers "alone take control of the US President's security".
"Ireland is a sovereign state, not an American outpost," the party's general secretary, Mr Pat Quearney, said.
