Directory company Conduit moves into profit

Telecom services group Conduit today reported a profit of €1

Telecom services group Conduit today reported a profit of €1.1 million in its first operating quarter of the year compared to a loss of €4.7 million last year.

The operator of the "11850" directory assistance number said earnings before depreciation, tax and allowances - EBITDA - improved to €2.7 million compared to a loss of €3.5 million in 2001.

Revenues grew 41 per cent to €15.3 million and gross margin increased to 45.6 per cent.

Conduit operates call centres in Dublin, Cardiff, Biel and Vienna providing directory assistance.

Mr Liam Young, Conduit's chief executive, described Conduit's margin improvement as an "immense achievement." He attributed the figures to a "relentless focus on cost improvement and better efficiencies during the period."

"The group has now reached the scale required to enable us to deliver consistently strong gross margins, and which places us in an excellent position to deliver substantial bottom-line profitability and real improvements on shareholder value," he added.
