Over 700 dentists will offer free mouth-cancer checks to the public next week as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the condition.
The Cork and Dublin dental hospitals will also offer the free five-minute examinations as part of Mouth Cancer Awareness Day on September 21st.
Mouth cancer kills more Irish people than skin melanomas or cervical cancer. More than 300 cases are detected here every year. More than 100 people die from the condition annually.
Risk factors include smoking, chewing tobacco, excessive alcohol consumption and exposure to the human papilloma virus.
