Bournemouth - An angry delegate at Britain's Labour party conference had his podium microphone turned off yesterday when he interrupted proceedings to complain about "stage-managing".

Applause rippled across the floor as Mr Turlough MacDaid (61) took to the rostrum to demand: "Could I be told how ordinary rank-and-file delegates can get in on the debate?"

The Scottish trades unionist walked off the platform, with the aid of a stick, receiving congratulatory slaps on the back from other delegates.
