A Co Wexford man yesterday won an appeal against his conviction for dangerous driving causing the death of a woman two years ago.

The Court of Criminal Appeal overturned the conviction of Mr Liam Higginbotham (24), a sales representative, of Kileens, Wexford, for dangerous driving causing the death of Samantha Quaid (27), a nurse, of Killelan, Castle bridge, Co Wexford, at Bally morris, Co Wexford, on February 1st, 1997.

Mr Higginbotham had been sentenced to two years imprisonment by Wexford Circuit Criminal Court but the sentence was suspended.

At the Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday, Mr Justice Keane, sitting with Mr Justice Kelly and Mr Justice O'Higgins, said the court would overturn the conviction and direct there would be no retrial. Written reasons would be delivered later.
