A Co Donegal factory worker, who claimed he was wrongfully assaulted and thrown out of a public house, has settled his High Court action for damages for €35,000.
Ryan McBride (29), Tirlaughan, Carrigart, had sued John Connor, owner of The Fleets Inn, Downings, Co Donegal, for damages over an incident at the premises on July 4th, 1998.
The defendant had denied the claims.
Just as the case was due to open yesterday before a judge and jury, Paul Greene SC, for Mr McBride, told Mr Justice Éamon de Valera that the matters between the parties had been resolved and judgment of €35,000 in favour of his client could be entered.
Mr McBride claimed that while he was in the public house, Mr Connor and his agents had intentionally assaulted him.
He claimed he was thrown out the door and suffered injuries, including a fractured ankle which needed surgery.
