A host of events taking place this weekend may not ease those air passengers fearful of the continuing ash disruption, but they will provide entertainment for members of the public staying at home.
Cycling tops the lists of sporting events, with races and charity cycles taking place in Cork, Limerick and Sligo.
The Stephen Roche Tour de Cure will take place from Midleton, in Co Cork tomorrow, with four separate routes; a 15k Family Run, a 50k Novice, a 100k Challenge and the 165k Expert.
The 19th Annual Knocklong/Glenbrohane Charity Cycle is also on tomorrow, starting in Limerick at 9.30am. Some 120 cyclists plus support vehicles will be travelling from Knocklong to Doolin in Co Clare and returning again on Sunday.
More than 1,000 cyclists are expected to turn out for the Tour of Sligo on Sunday. The event includes three races for cycling enthusiasts to partake in: the 160k Ox Mountain Challenge, the 60k Lough Gill Circuit and the 10k Family Spin.
Racing will take place tonight at Wexford Racecourse. The first race is at 4.40pm and the last is at 8.15pm. Racing will also take place at Dundalk Racecourse tomorrow, starting at 2.30pm and finishing at 5.50pm.
Moving from racing to rugby, Leinster will take on Edinburgh in the Magners League in the RDS tomorrow at 6.15pm. Motorists are advised to expect delays through Ballsbridge and Sandymount in Dublin.
For those looking to explore their creative side, the Phoenix Arts Festival is taking place in Tullamore, Co Offaly tomorrow and Sunday.
Balloon modelling workshops, fire shows, short film screenings, dance workshops and a treasure hunt are among the highlights of the festival, which is now in its 10th year.
The Inishbofin Community Arts Festival is starting in Connemara, Co Galway tonight and will run to Sunday. The festival programme includes poetry readings, a memoir writing workshop, an archaeological walk, a bodhran masterclass, a drama workshop and an art exhibition.
