Cross-border gas pipeline given go-ahead

Northern Ireland's Director General of Gas has approved plans for a cross-border gas pipeline.

Northern Ireland's Director General of Gas has approved plans for a cross-border gas pipeline.

Earlier this morning, a licence was granted for the project, which will involve constructing a pipeline from the Bord Gais supply at Gormanston, Co Meath, to the Antrim town area.

The plan will take over five years to complete, and the Government is making a significant contribution towards its development.

The Stormont Executive agreed last September to support the project, which will allow the development of gas networks in towns on the route of the pipelines.
