Man (21) due in court over murder of woman in Bray

A 21-year-old man is due in court this evening charged in connection with the discovery of the body of a 50-year-old woman in a house in Bray, Co Wicklow yesterday.

Gardaí said the woman died in violent circumstances.

The death, in a property on the Deepdales estate, is being treated as murder after a postmortem was carried out on the woman's remains by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis at St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown, Dublin.

Details of the postmortem were not being published for operational reasons, gardaí said in a statement.

“Investigating gardaí have confirmed that the woman died in violent circumstances,” it added.

The man was arrested yesterday and is being held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He is scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Bray District Court this evening charged in connection with the death.

An incident room has been established at Bray Garda station and a Garda family liaison officer has been appointed in the case.
