A youth took part in a mugging of two teenage boys in St Stephen’s Green four weeks after he was given probation in connection with another robbery, the Dublin Children’s Court has heard.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to his role in the offence, which occurred after he and an accomplice approached two boys, in their mid-teens, on December 10th last.

Garda Thomas O’Malley told Judge Denis McLoughlin that after the robbery he found two boys with “visible facial injuries”.

The prosecution accepted that the youth, who had four prior criminal convictions, had not caused the injuries to the boys. He had originally felt that he was unfairly prosecuted.

Defence solicitor Damian McKeone said the youth, who was accompanied to court by his father, now admits that by “common design” he was guilty of taking part in the offence.

The judge asked for a pre-sentence probation report to be prepared and adjourned the case until September.TOM TUITE
