Mr Fahy, who topped the poll in the last two local elections and has been a member of the council for the past 25 years, faces eight summonses.

The alleged offences relate to incidents going back over four years and include summonses in relation to amounts of €7,523.91 and €3,702.12. He also faces two summonses under the Larceny Act 1916 and under the Criminal Justice Act.

Mr Fahy's solicitor, Colman Sherry, applied yesterday for an adjournment to January so that statements could be issued.

Garda Insp John Galvin raised no objection and Judge Joe Mangan adjourned the case to Kinvara District Court on January 9th.

Mr Fahy did not address the court during the brief hearing and he left the courthouse shortly afterwards.
